Ethyl acetate, also known as acetic acid ethyl ester, is a compound formed by replacing the hydroxyl group in acetic acid with an ethoxy group. Its structural formula is CH3COOCH2CH3. Pure ethyl acetate is a colorless, transparent liquid with an aromatic odor. Its melting point is -83.6℃, its boiling point is 77.06℃, its relative density (water = 1): 0.894 - 0.898, its relative vapor density (air = 1): 3.04. It has a strong ether-like odor, a clear and slightly fruity aroma of wine, which is easily diffused but not persistent. It is slightly soluble in water and soluble in alcohols, ketones, ethers, chloroform and most other organic solvents. Ethyl acetate is a widely used fine chemical product with excellent solubility and quick drying properties. It has a wide range of applications and is an extremely important organic chemical raw material and excellent industrial solvent. It is widely used in the production of acetate fibers, ethyl cellulose, chlorinated rubber, vinyl resins, acetate fiber resins, synthetic rubber, paints and varnishes, etc. Its main uses include: as an industrial solvent in the production of paints, adhesives, ethyl cellulose, artificial leather, oilcloth colorants, artificial fibers, etc.; as a binder in the production of printing inks and artificial pearls; as an extractant in the production of medicines, organic acids, etc.; as a flavoring raw material in fruit essences such as pineapple, banana, strawberry, and main raw materials for scents in whiskies, creams, etc. The aged wine we mentioned is very delicious because it contains ethyl acetate. Ethyl acetate has a fruity aroma. Because the wine contains a small amount of acetic acid and reacts with ethanol to form ethyl acetate. Because this is a reversible reaction, it takes a long time to accumulate the ethyl acetate that causes the aroma of aged wine. In some developed countries, it is gradually replacing benzene-based solvents, methyl ethyl ketone and other solvents that cause great harm to the human body and the environment. Currently, the production routes of ethyl acetate include esterification method, acetal method, ethylene addition method and ethanol dehydrogenation method.
