Tobramycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic derived from Streptomyces tenebrarius and used to treat various types of bacterial infections, particularly Gram-negative infections. It is especially effective against species of Pseudomonas.

Tobramycin sulfate injection belongs to the class of aminoglycoside antibiotics, with the main component being tobramycin. This product is also an aminoglycoside antibiotic. Its antibacterial spectrum is similar to that of gentamicin, and it has antibacterial effects on Escherichia coli, Clostridium, Klebsiella, Proteus mirabilis, certain indole-positive diplococcus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, certain Neisseria, certain non-pigmented Enterobacter, and Shigella, all of which are Gram-negative bacteria.

Tobramycin sulfate is mainly used for septicemia, central nervous system infections (including meningitis), urinary and reproductive system infections, lung infections, biliary tract infections, abdominal infections (and peritonitis), bone infections, burns, skin and soft tissue infections, acute and chronic otitis media, sinusitis, caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Enterobacter genus, indole-negative and Staphylococcus. Tobramycin is ineffective against most Group D streptococcal infections.
