Methyltestosterone acetate belongs to the 17α-hydroxyprogesterone derivatives and has significant progestogenic activity. The progestogenic effect when taken orally is approximately 75 times that of natural progesterone, and when injected, it is about 50 times.
Its main pharmacological effects include: inhibiting the release of hypothalamic gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), reducing the sensitivity of the pituitary gland to GnRH, thereby significantly inhibiting ovulation; changing the nature of cervical mucus to make it viscous and unfavorable for sperm penetration; inhibiting the normal development of endometrial glands and preventing the implantation of fertilized eggs.
