What is Pyrimethamine  ?
Pyrimethamine, also known as immortal, darapirin, is a broad-spectrum veterinary drug widely used for antiprotozoal. In addition, pyrimethamine is also used in aquatic products to enhance the disease resistance of aquatic fish. However, the side effects of pyrimethamine are relatively large. Excessive use can damage the reproductive system of livestock and poultry and is not easy to recover. Pyrimethamine has an inhibitory effect on the primary infrared stage of certain falciparum malaria and vivax malaria, and is a better preventive medicine. Although it has no obvious effect on the gametophytes of malaria parasites, the drug-containing blood enters the mosquitoes, which can affect the development of the gametophytes in the mosquitoes, so it can block transmission.
Pyrimethamine  is a synthetic derivative of ethyl-pyrimidine with potent antimalarial properties. DHFR is a key enzyme in the redox cycle for production of tetrahydrofolate, a cofactor that is required for the synthesis of DNA and proteins.
This agent is often used in combination with other antimalarials for the treatment of uncomplicated falciparum malaria. Pyrimethamine is used with other medication (such as a sulfonamide) to treat a serious parasite infection (toxoplasmosis) of the body, brain, or eye or to prevent toxoplasmosis infection in people with HIV infection.

Pyrimethamine (Daraprim) is a medication used for protozoal infections. It is commonly used as an antimalarial drug (for both treatment and prevention of malaria), and is also used (combined with sulfadiazine) in the treatment of Toxoplasma gondii infections in immunocompromised patients, such as HIV-positive individuals. It is also currently being evaluated in clinical trials as a treatment for ALS. In 2011, researchers have discovered that Pyrimethamine can increase ß-hexosaminidase activity, thus slowing down the progression of Late-Onset Tay-Sachs disease.
