    3-[Bis(2-hydroxyethyl)amino]-2-hydroxypropanesulfonic acid   (DIPSO)

    also known as DIPSO buffer (or TES buffer), belongs to the class of aminosulfonic acid compounds.

     

    Properties:

    1. Appearance: A colorless crystalline solid.

    2. Solubility: Soluble in water; stable under acidic and neutral conditions.

    3. Buffering Action: Possesses buffering capacity, enabling it to maintain the pH of a solution within a specific range, unaffected by external factors.

    4. pKa Value: The pKa value of TES buffer is 7.47, making it suitable for experimental conditions with a pH range of 6.8 to 8.2.

     

    Applications:

    1. Used as a buffering agent in biochemistry and molecular biology experiments to maintain optimal conditions for enzyme activity and other biochemical reactions.

    2. Employed in protein electrophoresis, nucleic acid electrophoresis, and other biochemical procedures, such as polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE).
