Description

Oxcarbazepine (10,11-dihydro-10-oxo-5H-dibenzo[b,f]aza-5-carboxamide), a white to pale yellow crystalline powder, is an antiepileptic drug and a 10-keto derivative of carbamazepine. Its efficacy is similar to, or slightly stronger than, carbamazepine, but it has far fewer adverse reactions. This drug has a highly selective inhibitory effect on the motor cortex of the brain, preventing the propagation of abnormal electrical waves. It has satisfactory efficacy for focal or tonic-clonic seizures and affective disorders, and also provides good analgesia for trigeminal neuralgia.
