DAMINOZIDE – Plant Growth Regulator | CAS 1596-84-5
    Product Overview
Daminozide (CAS: 1596-84-5) is a highly effective plant growth regulator widely used in agriculture and horticulture to control plant growth, improve crop quality, and maximize yield. It functions by inhibiting gibberellin biosynthesis, a key hormone involved in plant stem elongation and development, thereby promoting more compact plant growth, enhancing flower formation, and improving fruit set.

    CAS Number 1596-84-5
    Molecular Formula C6H12N2O3
    Molecular Weight 160.17 g/mol
    MDL Number MFCD00002787
    EINECS Number 216-485-9
HS Code 2934.99.9001 (varies by purity/formulation) or 29280000
    Product Description
Daminozide is a synthetic hydrazide plant growth regulator that selectively inhibits 2-oxoglutarate-dependent dioxygenase activity in the gibberellin biosynthesis pathway. By suppressing gibberellin production, it effectively reduces internode elongation and controls excessive vegetative growth while having no negative impact on leaf, flower, or fruit formation.

This product appears as a white to off-white crystalline solid or powder with a slight characteristic odor. It is soluble in water and organic solvents such as DMSO, with good formulation stability when stored properly.

    Applications
    Agriculture
Daminozide is widely used to improve fruit set, enhance color development, and prevent premature fruit drop, particularly in apples, peaches, cherries, pears, prunes, and grapes. It is also used as a pre-planting seed treatment for potatoes and other vegetables to inhibit sprouting, increase yield, and reduce the incidence of disease.

    Horticulture & Ornamentals
Effectively controls the growth of ornamental plants including chrysanthemums, azaleas, bedding plants, hydrangeas, poinsettias, and foliage plants. Daminozide produces more compact plants with thicker leaves, deeper green coloration, extended flowering periods, and enhanced cold tolerance.

    Plant Tissue Culture
Daminozide has been shown to enhance plant regeneration efficiency while reducing the occurrence of albino plantlets in tissue culture applications.

    ECHEMI Editorial Reference
Daminozide is a colorless crystalline solid. white crystalline powderOdorless white crystals or powder.Daminozide is one of the first plant growth retardants[PGRs] registered for use on agricultural crops. It was first registered in 1963 for use on potted chrysanthemums in the US and was later approved for use on food crops[1-2]. Although it is still allowed for used on ornamentals plants, its use on food crops was withdrawn in 1990 by the United States environmental protection agenc.
