The compound activates and stimulates proliferation of T cells, monocytes, and macrophages, while increasing chemotaxis, phagocytosis, and neutrophil motility. Additionally, Levamisole functions as a positive modulator of α3β2 and α3β4 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.

For dogs and cats, it is effective against roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and heartworms. In cattle, sheep, and pigs, it is commonly used for parasite control.

For Human Use

In human medicine, Levamisole has been utilized as an adjunctive treatment for colon cancer adenocarcinoma. It is also indicated for parasitic infections including ascariasis, ankylostomiasis, strongyloidiasis, enterobiasis, trichuriasis, and trichostrongylosis. Additionally, it has demonstrated beneficial effects in patients with recurrent herpes infections and immunodepressed disorders.

Contraindications and Precautions

Levamisol is contraindicated in patients or animals with known hypersensitivity to levamisole or its components. It should not be used in patients receiving oral anticoagulants, alcohol, or bone marrow depressant drugs. The medication should be avoided during pregnancy, particularly in the third trimester.
