• Solubility: Practically insoluble in water, but highly miscible with common organic solvents such as ethanol, diethyl ether, and acetone.
• Flash Point: Approximately 37–39 °C, making it a flammable liquid that requires strict caution near open flames or high heat.1

Chemical Properties

• Reactivity & Polymerization: It is a highly reactive acrylic ester monomer capable of undergoing excellent copolymerization with various vinyl monomers. However, it has a strong tendency toward self-polymerization, which accelerates drastically with rising temperatures, exposure to light, or prolonged storage.
• Stabilization Mechanism: To maintain storage stability and prevent premature polymerization, commercial products are "stabilized" by adding specific inhibitors, typically MEHQ (MonoMethyl ether hydroquinone) or 4-Methoxyphenol, usually at concentrations ranging from 10 to 60 ppm.
• Flammability & Thermal Hazards: Highly flammable. When exposed to open flames, high heat, or strong oxidizing agents, it can ignite violently and release toxic fumes containing carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.
• Toxicity & Irritation: Classified as an irritant and potential skin sensitizer. Exposure causes severe irritation to the eyes, skin, and upper respiratory tract. Inhalation of its vapors may lead to coughing, shortness of breath, and allergic reactions. Strict personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory when handling this substance.1

Main Applications

• Acrylic Polymers & Resins: This is its most prominent use. As a crucial soft monomer, it is extensively copolymerized with hard monomers (like methyl methacrylate or styrene) to synthesize acrylic resins.
