    1. Product Overview

Sodium Tetraphenylborate, CAS 32042-43-6, also known as NaTPB, is a white to off white crystalline powder supplied as anhydrous form or monohydrate 143-66-8. It is readily soluble in cold water up to about 5 gram per 100 milliliter giving a clear colorless solution pH around 5 to 7 which is stable for short term but decomposes slowly especially on heating or in acidic medium. This reagent grade AR and Analytical grade material is the classical gravimetric precipitating agent for potassium ion K plus ammonium ion NH4 plus rubidium cesium and quaternary ammonium cations forming insoluble tetraphenylborate salts. It is also used as an ion pairing reagent in reversed phase HPLC and for determining cationic surfactants. Each batch is tested for solubility clarity absence of turbidity and precipitation performance against standard potassium chloride solution.

    2. Key Features & Advantages

    • Selective precipitation of K plus NH4 plus Rb plus Cs plus Ag plus Tl plus and quaternary ammonium cations with formation of coarse white tetraphenylborate precipitate ideal for gravimetric and titrimetric analysis.

    • High water solubility about 5 gram per 100 milliliter cold water with neutral to slightly acidic pH ensuring minimal interference from many other cations.

    • Photolabile compound supplied in amber vials with strict light protection to maintain whiteness and prevent yellowing or reduced activity.

    • Compatible with ion pair chromatography for separating basic drugs amines and quaternary ammonium compounds in pharmaceutical and environmental analysis.

    • Low blank value and high stoichiometry make it reliable for trace level potassium determination in water soil and biological fluids.

    • Available in AR Analytical Reagent grade and high purity for HPLC ion pairing applications.

    3. Main Applications

    • Analytical chemistry: primary gravimetric and titrimetric reagent for quantitative determination of potassium K plus ammonium NH4 plus rubidium cesium and quaternary ammonium salts in water soil fertilizers food and biological samples; also used in surfactant titration for cationic surfactants.

    • Ion pair chromatography: HPLC ion pairing reagent often used with alkyl sulfonates or phosphates to retain and separate protonated amines basic drugs peptides and quaternary ammonium compounds.

    • Polymer and organic synthesis: source of tetraphenylborate anion as a bulky non coordinating counterion in phase transfer catalysis organometallic complex isolation and conductive polymer doping.

    • Biochemistry: precipitates proteins polypeptides and some enzymes; used in studying membrane transport of cations.

    • For research use only not for therapeutic or diagnostic use in humans or animals.

    5. Storage & Handling

    • Packaging: laboratory 1 g 5 g 25 g 100 g in amber glass vials with PTFE lined caps to block light and moisture; bulk 500 g 1 kg in double sealed polyethylene bags within moisture barrier foil pouches or brown bottles; industrial 25 kg cardboard drum with inner PE liner; working solutions prepared fresh in deionized cold water stored in amber bottles 2 to 8 C protected from light and used within 24 to 72 hours before decomposition and precipitate formation.

    • Storage Conditions: store solid in a cool dry dark place 2 to 25 C preferably in a desiccator away from direct light heat strong acids and moisture; photolabile and hygroscopic so keep container tightly sealed after each use; avoid preparing hot solutions which accelerate hydrolysis to boric acid and biphenyl.

    • Shelf Life: 24 months unopened original packaging; opened vials use within 3 to 6 months and reseal immediately; discard if powder turns yellow or solution becomes turbid.

    • Handling: use in well ventilated area or fume hood; avoid dust inhalation; wear nitrile gloves safety goggles and lab coat; prepare solutions with cold deionized water and filter if needed; do not expose to UV or sunlight.

    6. Safety Overview

    • GHS Classification: Warning GHS07; Acute Tox 4 Oral; Skin Irrit 2; Eye Irrit 2A; STOT SE 3 Respiratory irritation.

    • Hazard Statements: H302 Harmful if swallowed; H315 Causes skin irritation; H319 Causes serious eye irritation; H335 May cause respiratory irritation.

    • Protective Measures: wear nitrile gloves safety glasses or face shield and particulate respirator N95 or P2; use local exhaust ventilation when weighing powder; protect from light.

    • First Aid: Inhalation move to fresh air seek medical attention if persistent irritation; Eye Contact rinse immediately with plenty running water min 15 minutes remove contact lenses get medical advice if irritation continues; Skin Contact wash thoroughly with soap and water remove contaminated clothing launder before reuse; Ingestion rinse mouth do NOT induce vomiting drink small amount water seek immediate medical advice harmful if swallowed.

    • Environmental Precautions: may be harmful to aquatic life due to boron and phenyl groups; prevent release of powder or concentrated solution into drains or natural waterways; collect waste as hazardous laboratory chemical waste per local regs; not classified as DG for transport general lab waste.
