1-Ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)carbodiimide Hydrochloride, commonly known as EDC·HCl or EDCI, is a widely used water-soluble carbodiimide coupling reagent. It appears as a white to off-white crystalline powder with a molecular weight of 191.70 and a melting point of 110-115°C . The compound is highly soluble in water (≤100 mg/mL) and most organic solvents, making it exceptionally versatile for aqueous and mixed-phase reactions .
