1. Physical Properties
At room temperature, it is a white crystalline powder with a characteristic odor. It is slightly soluble in cold water; its solubility increases slightly in hot water. It is soluble in any proportion in common organic solvents such as ethanol and diethyl ether.
2. Chemical Properties
(1) Stability: Stable at room temperature and standard pressure; decomposes when heated above 370°C or upon combustion, releasing toxic and corrosive fumes such as hydrogen chloride and nitrogen oxides.
(2) Reactivity: Reacts violently with strong oxidizing agents and strong acids, posing a risk of fire and explosion; when left exposed to air for extended periods, it undergoes slow oxidation, and its color gradually changes from white to dark brown.
(3) Polymerization Hazards: Under normal conditions, polymerization does not occur, and there is no risk of spontaneous polymerization.
3. Main Applications
(1) Dye Industry: Serves as a key intermediate in the synthesis of various acid dyes and reactive dyes, used in dyeing processes in the textile and leather industries; it can be used to produce azo dyes with stable color.
(2) Pharmaceutical Industry: It serves as a key starting material for the synthesis of ciprofloxacin and can also be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of certain analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs.
(3) Pesticide Industry: It is used in the synthesis of amidoazole fungicides and PUMA herbicides and is widely applied in agricultural pest and disease control as well as weed management.

Storing and transporting the product in a sealed, light-protected environment effectively delays oxidation and discoloration.
