Product Overview

Mordant Orange 1 (CAS 2243-76-7), also known as Alizarin Yellow R, is an azo dye with the molecular formula C₁₃H₉N₃NaO₅ and a molecular weight of 310.22 g/mol. It is a yellow to orange-yellow crystalline powder. Mordant Orange 1 is primarily used as a pH indicator, exhibiting a color change from yellow to red in the pH range of 10.0-12.0. It is also used as a mordant dye in textile applications.

Synthetic Process

Mordant Orange 1 is synthesized by the diazotization of p-nitroaniline followed by coupling with salicylic acid, and subsequent salt formation with sodium.

Mechanism of Action

As a pH indicator, mordant orange 1 exhibits a color change from yellow to red in the alkaline pH range (approximately 10.0-12.0). It is also used as a metal indicator in complexometric titrations.
