Description:
MOTS-c (Mitochondrial Open Reading Frame of the 12S rRNA-c) is a 16-amino-acid bioactive peptide derived from the mitochondrial genome. It modulates the AMPK/PGC-1α pathway to enhance insulin sensitivity by promoting the accumulation of AICAR, an endogenous AMP analog. MOTS-c inhibits the folate cycle and de novo purine synthesis, elevates AICAR levels to activate AMPK, and regulates the Nrf2/Keap1 antioxidant pathway while suppressing the NF-κB inflammatory pathway. It promotes mitochondrial biogenesis and energy metabolism, with applications in research on type 2 diabetes, traumatic brain injury, inflammatory diseases, and age-related metabolic disorders.
