AHK-Cu (L-alanyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine copper complex, also known as Copper Tripeptide-3) is a tripeptide-copper complex that has been identified as a bioactive peptide with hair growth-promoting effects. It increases dermal cell proliferation and viability while enhancing collagen deposition to renew the extracellular matrix.

AHK-Cu stimulates the elongation of human hair follicles and the proliferation of dermal papilla cells (DPCs) at concentrations as low as 10⁻¹² to 10⁻⁹ M. Mechanistically, it elevates the Bcl-2/Bax ratio and reduces cleaved caspase-3 and PARP levels, indicating anti-apoptotic effects in DPCs. Additionally, AHK-Cu stimulates type I collagen formation in human dermal fibroblasts by up to 300% compared to control.

AHK-Cu has been reported for use as a cosmetic ingredient and is widely studied in research on hair growth, skin regeneration, and extracellular matrix remodeling.
