Application & Synthesis
Overview
The conventional preparation process for 2,2'-azobis(2‑amidinopropane) dihydrochloride generally consists of three steps. First, oxidize hydroazo nitrile into azo nitrile with oxidants such as chlorine or hydrogen peroxide. Second, conduct the Pinner reaction in the presence of methanol and hydrogen chloride to obtain azo imino ether hydrochloride. Third, disperse azo imino ether hydrochloride with alcohol and introduce ammonia gas to yield target product. This process has drawbacks including long procedure, difficult‑to‑control reaction conditions, large‑volume wastewater generation, poor environmental friendliness and relatively low yield, which is not suitable for large‑scale industrial production.
Application
It serves as free‑radical initiator for biochemical reactions and polymerization reactions. It is widely used for polymerization of acrylic, vinyl and allyl monomers.
It can also be applied in biochemical research, and acts as intermediate for synthesis of pharmaceuticals, dyes and other chemical products.
