    N-Acetyl-L-cysteine ethyl ester, commonly referred to as NACET, is a high-purity, lipophilic derivative of N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC). This compound is specifically designed to overcome the bioavailability limitations of standard NAC by featuring an ethyl ester group that significantly enhances its cell membrane permeability. As a result, NACET achieves superior passive diffusion across biological barriers, making it a highly efficient intracellular delivery system for cysteine and glutathione precursors.
    With a molecular formula of C₇H₁₃NO₃S and a molecular weight of 191.25, NACET appears as a white to off-white crystalline powder with a purity of 98% or higher as determined by HPLC. Once inside the cell, the ester bond is rapidly cleaved by intracellular esterases, releasing free NAC and subsequently cysteine. This cysteine serves as the rate-limiting substrate for glutathione synthesis, leading to a marked and sustained elevation of intracellular glutathione levels.     N-acetyl-L-Cysteine ethyl ester is an esterified form of N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC; ). It has enhanced cell permeability in isolated perfused rat liver compared to NAC. N-acetyl-L-Cysteine ethyl ester (1 mM) preventstert-butyl hydroperoxide-induced formation of methemoglobin in isolated human red blood cells. It increases glutathione levels in rat liver, kidney, heart, testis, and brain when administered at a dose of 50 mg/kg twice per day for two weeks. N-acetyl-L-Cysteine ethyl ester reduces increases in plasma aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels induced by paracetamol (acetaminophen; ) in rats.
