What it is used for:
SS-31 (Elamipretide) is a novel mitochondria-targeting tetrapeptide that selectively binds to cardiolipin on the inner mitochondrial membrane, thereby improving mitochondrial bioenergetics, reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, and inhibiting mitochondrial permeability transition pore (MPT) opening.
