Tetrahydropalmatine (THP) is an alkaloid extracted from the traditional Chinese medicinal herb Corydalis yanhusuo, belonging to the isoquinoline class of compounds. Between 1928 and 1936, Chinese chemists such as Zhao Chenggu first isolated corydalis A, B (later renamed tetrahydropalmatine), and C from the tubers of Corydalis yanhusuo. THP appears as a white crystalline powder, sparingly soluble in water but readily soluble in organic solvents. Its chemical structure shares similarities with certain opioid substances, yet it acts through distinct mechanisms. THP exhibits multiple pharmacological effects, including analgesia, sedation, hypnosis, and antispasmodic activity. It is non-addictive, has low toxicity, minimal side effects, and high safety.

1. Analgesic Effects
   • Mechanism of Action: THP inhibits the release of dopamine (DA) and serotonin (5-HT) within the central nervous system, thereby reducing the transmission of pain signals and exerting analgesic effects.
