Product Overview
Dichloromethane (DCM, methylene chloride) is a colorless, volatile liquid with a characteristic ether-like odor. It is supplied at ≥99.9% purity and is widely used as a chlorinated solvent in paint stripping, pharmaceutical manufacturing, extraction processes, and as a blowing agent. DCM is a non-flammable solvent with high volatility and excellent dissolving power for a wide range of organic compounds.

Synthetic Process
Dichloromethane is produced industrially by the chlorination of methane or methyl chloride at high temperature. The crude product is purified by distillation to achieve ≥99.9% purity.

Mechanism of Action
As a chlorinated solvent, DCM dissolves a wide range of organic compounds including resins, oils, fats, and waxes. Its non-flammability and high volatility make it useful for paint stripping and degreasing applications. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, it serves as a reaction medium and extraction solvent.
