    Product Description

2-Naphthol (CAS 135-19-3), molecular formula C10H8O and molecular weight 144.17 g/mol, is a naphthalene derived aromatic phenol supplied in industrial grade with a minimum assay of 99 percent. It is produced commercially from naphthalene through sulphonation followed by alkali fusion and acidification, and is traded worldwide as a tonnage intermediate for the dye, rubber additive and agrochemical industries.

Physically, the product presents as white to pale yellow flakes or a crystalline powder with a slight phenolic odour. It melts between 120 C and 123 C and boils between 285 C and 286 C at atmospheric pressure, with a density of 1.28 g/cm3 at 20 C. It is only slightly soluble in cold water, about 0.755 g/L at 25 C, but dissolves readily in ethanol, ethyl ether, chloroform, glycerol and alkaline aqueous solutions. This solubility profile allows convenient processing either as a molten charge or as a solution in alkaline media, which is the standard route for diazonium coupling reactions.

Chemically, the hydroxyl substituent makes the naphthalene ring more reactive than unsubstituted naphthalene, and coupling with diazonium salts proceeds preferentially at the adjacent alpha position. This behaviour underpins its long standing role as a coupling component in azo dye and pigment manufacture. It also serves as the starting material for naphthol sulphonated derivatives used across the colorant value chain.

Dideu Group offers this material with a minimum order quantity of 1 metric ton and a lead time within 3 weeks of order confirmation, shipped by sea in standard export packaging. Each consignment is accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis covering assay, appearance and melting point.

    Applications

Dyes and Pigments. The principal use of 2-Naphthol is as an intermediate for the dye industry. It acts as a coupling component in the production of azo dyes and azo pigments, and as the starting material for naphthol sulphonated derivatives, naphthol carboxylic acids and naphthol based colorant developers used in textile printing and dyeing.

Rubber and Elastomers. It is a key raw material for rubber antidegradants and antioxidant additives, helping to extend the service life of tyres, belts, hoses and other rubber goods by retarding oxidative ageing.

Pharmaceuticals and Agrochemicals. Used as a synthesis intermediate and as a raw material in the manufacture of fungicides, preservatives and antiparasitic agents, as well as in selected pharmaceutical synthesis routes.

Fragrances and Flavors. Its ester and ether derivatives are employed in perfumery and fragrance compounding, contributing to the raw material base of the flavor and fragrance sector.

Fats, Oils and Lubricants. Functions as an antioxidant additive in fats, oils and related formulations where oxidation stability is required.

Mining and Mineral Processing. Applied as a flotation and mineral processing aid in ore beneficiation operations.

Leather and Textiles. Used in leather tanning formulations and as a textile printing and dyeing auxiliary.

Analytical and Laboratory Use. Employed as an analytical reagent and as a fluorescent indicator in laboratory work.
