    Description

Divinylbenzene is a colorless to pale yellow liquid, prone to polymerization. It is insoluble in water, soluble in methanol and ether. It contains two vinyl groups, which can copolymerize to form cross-linked polymers with three-dimensional structure.

    Applications

It serves as an effective cross-linking agent. Widely used for ion exchange resins, ion exchange membranes, ABS resin, polystyrene resin, unsaturated polyester resin and synthetic rubber. Also applied in paint, special rubber raw materials, wood processing and carbon material processing. It can be used in organic synthesis.

    Production method

Mixed diethylbenzene is obtained as by-product during the alkylation of ethylene and benzene to produce ethylbenzene. The mixture of diethylbenzene is then dehydrogenated to produce ortho-, meta-, and para-divinylbenzene isomers.

    Safety & Storage

Store in cool, well-ventilated and dry warehouse. Do not store for extended periods. Keep away from fire and separate from oxidants. Suitable extinguishing media: carbon dioxide, foam, dry powder. Occupational exposure: TWA 50 mg/m³; STEL 75 mg/m³.

    ECHEMI Editorial Reference
A water-white to straw colored liquid. Slightly less dense than water and insoluble in water. Flash point below 141°F. Vapors may be toxic. Used in making rubber. Divinylbenzene is a clear yellow liquid with an aromatic odour. It is a highly flammable and reactive chemical, and the liquid and vapour are combustible. It is incompatible with strong acids and oxidising agents and peroxides. Divinylbenzene reacts vigorously with strong oxidising agents. It also reacts exothermically with both acid
