Physical Characteristics: A pale yellow to brownish-red liquid, odorless. It decomposes easily in air and darkens upon storage. It is hygroscopic. It dissolves in water, rapidly decomposing into sodium hydroxide and ethanol upon contact. It dissolves in anhydrous ethanol without decomposing and is miscible with most organic solvents such as ether, chloroform, glycerol, and methanol.

Product usage:

1. Organic synthesis: Used as a strong alkaline catalyst, ethoxylating agent, and as a coagulant and reducing agent in organic synthesis, such as the preparation of polymers, surfactants, etc.

2. Pharmaceuticals: Participate in the production of various drugs in pharmaceutical synthesis, such as phenobarbital, phenylbutazone, piroxicam, primidone, methyldopa, tetracaine hydrochloride, doxycycline, aminopterin, pyrimethamine, penicillin G, etc.

3. Pesticides and spices: used in the synthesis of pesticides and as key raw materials in the production of spices.

4. Reagents: Used as analytical reagents in the laboratory for organic synthesis and catalysis of chemical reactions.
