Product Overview
Isoniazid (isonicotinyl hydrazide) is a first-line anti-tuberculosis agent and a pharmaceutical reference standard. It is supplied at HPLC≥98% purity for pharmaceutical research and analytical applications. The compound is a white to off-white crystalline powder, freely soluble in water.

Synthetic Process
Isoniazid is produced industrially by the reaction of isonicotinic acid or its esters with hydrazine hydrate, followed by crystallization.

Mechanism of Action
As a prodrug, isoniazid is activated by the mycobacterial catalase-peroxidase enzyme KatG. The activated form inhibits mycolic acid synthesis by targeting the enoyl-acyl carrier protein reductase InhA, leading to disruption of the mycobacterial cell wall.
