Benzothiazole-2-thiol, 2-mercaptobenzothiazole, also known as accelerator M, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C7H5NS2, a pale yellow crystalline powder used primarily as a sensitive reagent for assay deposits, bismuth, cadmium, cobalt, mercury, nickel, lead, thallium, and zinc, and as a rubber accelerator. On October 27, 2017, the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer published a preliminary list of carcinogens for reference, 2-mercaptobenzothiazole in the list of Class 2A carcinogens.
