    Description

5-Aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) is an organic compound containing oxygen and nitrogen. It is a common precursor for the biosynthesis of all porphyrin compounds. It is a non-proteinogenic amino acid widely found in bacteria, fungi, animals and plants. It is a naturally occurring, metabolically active physiologically active substance in plants. It is easily degraded with no residue. In agricultural applications, it can be used for seedling strengthening, yield improvement, color enhancement, and plant growth regulation.

    Mechanism of Action

As a multi-functional plant growth regulator, 5-ALA participates in plant photosynthesis, respiration and transpiration. It takes part in the synthesis of chlorophyll, heme and phytochrome in plants. It helps activate plant genes and promotes the expression of favorable agronomic traits. It can increase chlorophyll content, improve the electron transfer activity in photosystem II, raise the efficiency of light energy conversion, expand stomatal aperture, improve carbon dioxide fixation capacity, boost transpiration, and promote the absorption and transformation of mineral elements by crop roots. It can promote seed germination, shorten growth cycle, improve fertilizer utilization, cultivate strong seedlings, accelerate fruit ripening, improve sugar content and color, enhance plant stress resistance and increase crop yield and quality.

    Applications

5-Aminolevulinic acid acts as a growth-promoting factor and plays an important role in agriculture. It regulates a series of physiological and biochemical processes in plants to support plant growth and increase crop yield. At low concentrations, it promotes the growth of various crops. It can also alleviate plant damage caused by abiotic stresses including drought, salt, low temperature, high temperature, heavy metals and ultraviolet radiation. It can be applied in feed field to support animal immunity. It can also be used in cosmetic raw materials, health food additives and biochemical research.

    Biological Activity

5-Aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) is a non-proteinogenic amino acid, which is the rate-limiting component in heme biosynthesis. Target: Human Endogenous Metabolite In vitro study: 5-Aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) enhances the immune response of L. vannamei against V. parahaemolyticus, up-regulates immune- and defense-related genes, and enhances aerobic energy metabolism.

    ECHEMI Editorial Reference
5-Amino-4-oxopentanoic acid is a non-protein amino acid that plays a rate-limiting role in heme biosynthesis.
    Solid
5-aminolevulinic acid is the simplest delta-amino acid in which the hydrogens at the gamma position are replaced by an oxo group. It is metabolised to protoporphyrin IX, a photoactive compound which accumulates in the skin. Used (in the form of the hydrochloride salt)in combination with blue light illumination for the treatment of minimally to moderately thick actinic keratosis of the face or scalp. It has a role as a photosensitizing agent, an antineoplastic agent, a dermatologic drug, a prodrug, a plant metabolite, a human metabolite, a Saccharomyces cerevisiae metabolite, an Escherichia coli metabolite and a mouse metabolite. It is a delta-amino acid and a 4-oxo monocarboxylic acid. It derives from a 4-oxopentanoic acid. It is a conjugate base of a 5-ammoniolevulinic acid. It is a conjugate acid of a 5-aminolevulinate. It is a tautomer of a 5-ammoniolevulinate.|Aminolevulinic acid is a Porphyrin Precursor.|Aminolevulinic Acid is a topically administered metabolic precursor of protoporphyrin IX. After topical administration, aminolevulinic acid (ALA) is converted to protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) which is a photosensitizer. When the proper wavelength of light activates protoporphyrin IX, singlet oxygen is produced, resulting in a local cytotoxic effect. (NCI04)|A compound produced from succinyl-CoA and GLYCINE as an intermediate in heme synthesis. It is used as a PHOTOCHEMOTHERAPY for actinic KERATOSIS.
