Methods of Manufacturing

Compound (I) and benzoyl hydrazide are reacted in ethanol containing acetic acid at 60°C or 65°C, and then acidified with hydrochloric acid to obtain zorubicin hydrochloride.

Uses

It is a semi-synthetic anti-tumor antibiotic similar to doxycycline, with similar efficacy to doxorubicin. For the relief of acute lymphocytic leukemia and acute blasts, especially acute monocytic leukemia.
