Description

Cefadroxil hydrate (BL-S 578 hydrate) is an orally active and first-generation cephalosporin with a broad spectrum antibacterial activity. Cefadroxil hydrate (BL-S 578 hydrate) also acts as a substrate of the peptide transporter PEPT1 and PEPT2[1][2].

Cefadroxil monohydrate is the hydrate that is the monohydrate of the cephalosporin cefadroxil. It contains a cefadroxil.|Cefadroxil is a semi-synthetic, beta-lactam, first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with bactericidal activity. Cefadroxil binds to and inactivates penicillin-binding proteins (PBP) located on the inner membrane of the bacterial cell wall. PBPs are enzymes involved in the terminal stages of assembling the bacterial cell wall and in reshaping the cell wall during growth and division. Inactivation of PBPs interferes with the cross-linkage of peptidoglycan chains necessary for bacterial cell wall strength and rigidity. This results in the weakening of the bacterial cell wall and causes cell lysis.|Long-acting, broad-spectrum, water-soluble, CEPHALEXIN derivative.

Drug Function and Efficacy

The first generation of oral cephalosporin has good antibacterial effect on most strains of penicillinase-producing and non-penicillinase-producing Staphylococcus aureus, coagulase-negative Staphylococcus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, group A hemolytic Streptococcus, etc. It also has certain antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Salmonella, Shigella, Haemophilus influenzae and gonococci. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus, Enterococcus, indole-positive Proteus, Enterobacter, Serratia and other Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacteroides fragilis are resistant to this product.
