Boron triiodide (chemical formula: BI₃) is an inorganic compound composed of boron (B) and iodine (I). This compound usually exists in the form of colorless to pale yellow crystals, is highly hygroscopic, and rapidly hydrolyzes in contact with water. Its molecular weight is 391.52 g/mol, density is about 3.35 g/cm³, melting point is about 49.9°C, boiling point is about 210°C, it is easily soluble in organic solvents such as benzene and chloroform, and rapidly hydrolyzes in contact with water.
