3-hydroxy-4-methyl-4, 5-enyl-1-heptyne is prepared by the reaction of 2-methyl-2-pentenal with sodium acetylene. 3-hydroxy-4-methyl-4, 5-alkenyl-1-heptyne reacts with dichlorochrysanthemumyl chloride to prepare chloralethrin.
