The preparation method is to react cinnamic acid with sulfur chloride to generate cinnamic acid chloride, and then react with 4-bromobiphenyl in the presence of anhydrous aluminum trichloride to generate a product.

Uses

1-(4-Bromobiphenyl-4-yl)-3-phenyl-2-propen-1-one is an intermediate of the rodenticide bromadiolone.
