Methods of Manufacturing

General procedure: A homogeneous mixture containing 4-picoline (19, 5 mL, 0.2 mol), bromobutane (22 mL, 0.2 mol) and acetonitrile (10 mL) was stirred at 60 C for 48 hours under argon atmosphere. To resulting slightly yellow viscous liquid was added sodium tetrafluoroborate (22 g, 0.2 mol) at same temperature followed by sufficient Mili-Q water volume to dissolve any solid (almost 15 mL). After cooling in ice bath, reaction mixture was extracted with CH2Cl2, then organic layer was washed with Mili-Q water (5-7 x 10 mL) until negative test for bromine with AgNO3 in aqueous phase. Elimination of volatiles under vaccum led to a slightly yellow oil (83 % yield).
