2,4-Difluoropyridine Use and Manufacturing

A solution of 2, 4-difluoro pyridine (5 g, 43.4 mmol) in THF (120 ml.) was added dropwise to a stirring solution of lithium diisopropylamide (2M in THF/heptane/ethylbenzene, 26.1 ml_, 52.1 mmol) at -78 C. After stirring for 1 h, the reaction was transferred to a stirring solution of methyl chloroformate (5.05 ml_, 65.2 mmol) in THF (120 ml.) at -78 C via cannula. The reaction mixture was allowed to warm to RT over 30 min. The reaction was quenched slowly with water (100 ml.) and was extracted with EtOAc (3x100ml_). The organics were combined, dried with Na2S04, filtered, and volatiles were removed in vacuo. The product was purified by silica gel chromatography (EtOAc / heptane) to give the title compound. LCMS: Rt = 0.94 min, m/z 174.1 (M+H) (LCMS method 1 ).
