To a stirred solution of 5-nitropicolinaldehyde (350 g, 2.3mmol, 1.0 eq) in methanol (10 mL) was added NaBH4 (82 mg, 2.3 mmol, 1.0 eq) at 0 °C and resulting reaction mixture was stirred for 2 h.
