Cnicus benedictus, ext. Use and Manufacturing
Tonic and stimulating properties of blessed thistle extract (holy thistle) have been attributed to this herb. It is an effective extract for problem-prone skin, such as skin with papules and pustules. In antiquity, this plant was believed to aid in the healing of skin sores and to reduce itching. Blessed thistle contains a volatile oil and a bitter, crystalline neutral body called cnicin, said to be analogous to salicin in its properties. It is one of many varieties of thistle.
