Description

Off-White Solid

Etazolate is a pyrazolopyridine that is 1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine which is substituted at positions 1, 4, and 5 by ethyl, 2-isopropylidenehydrazino, and ethoxycarbonyl groups, respectively. A phosphodiesterase IV inhibitor with antidepressant and anxiolytic properties. It has a role as a neuroprotective agent, an antipsychotic agent, a phosphodiesterase IV inhibitor, an anxiolytic drug, an antidepressant, an alpha-secretase activator and a GABA agent. It is a hydrazone, an ethyl ester and a pyrazolopyridine.|A potent phosphodiesterase inhibitor proposed as an antipsychotic agent.

Drug Information

Agents that control agitated psychotic behavior, alleviate acute psychotic states, reduce psychotic symptoms, and exert a quieting effect. They are used in SCHIZOPHRENIA; senile dementia; transient psychosis following surgery; or MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION; etc. These drugs are often referred to as neuroleptics alluding to the tendency to produce neurological side effects, but not all antipsychotics are likely to produce such effects. Many of these drugs may also be effective against nausea, emesis, and pruritus. (See all compounds classified as Antipsychotic Agents.)|Compounds which inhibit or antagonize the biosynthesis or actions of phosphodiesterases.
