Description

Amikacin sulfate(BAY416651 sulfate) is a semi-synthetic aminoglycoside antibiotic derived from kanamycin A.Target: AntibacterialAmikacin disrupts bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosome of susceptible organisms. Binding interferes with mRNA binding and tRNA acceptor sites leading to the production of non-functional or toxic peptides. Other mechanisms not fully understood may confer the bactericidal effects of amikacin. Amikacin is also nephrotoxic and ototoxic. Amikaci

White Solid

ChEBI: An aminoglycoside sulfate salt obtained by combining amikacin with two molar equivalents of sulfuric acid.

Poison by intravenous route.Moderately toxic by intraperitoneal and subcutaneousroutes. An experimental teratogen. Other experimentalreproductive effects. When heated to decomposition itemits very toxic fumes of NOx and SOx.

Amikacin Disulfate Use and Manufacturing

Semisynthetic aminoglycoside antibiotic derived from Kanamycin A. Antibacterial.

Analgesic

Amikacin disulfate is used as an aminoglycoside antibiotic derived from Kanamycin A, used for treating infections with multidrug resistant Gram negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter, and Enterobacter. It is commonly used in the treatment of drug-resistant mycobacteria. It is used to study organism-directed delivery of antibiotics as well as drug resistance.

Drug Function and Efficacy

Amikacin sulfate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that has a good effect on most Enterobacteriaceae and is stable to the aminoglycoside inactivating enzymes produced by many intestinal Gram-negative bacilli. Its mechanism of action is to act on the 30S subunit of bacterial ribosomes and inhibit bacterial protein synthesis. Combination with semi-synthetic penicillins or cephalosporins often produces a synergistic antibacterial effect.
