Description

Ribavirin 5'-triphosphate is a 1-ribosyltriazole that is ribavirin in which the hydroxy group at the 5'-position is replaced by a triphosphate group. It is the active metabolite of the antiviral agent ribavirin. It has a role as a human blood serum metabolite, a drug metabolite, an antiviral agent, a eukaryotic initiation factor 4F inhibitor and an EC 2.7.7.48 (RNA-directed RNA polymerase) inhibitor. It is a 1-ribosyltriazole, an aromatic amide, a monocarboxylic acid amide, a primary carboxamide and a ribose triphosphate. It derives from a ribavirin.

Drug Information

Agents used in the prophylaxis or therapy of VIRUS DISEASES. Some of the ways they may act include preventing viral replication by inhibiting viral DNA polymerase; binding to specific cell-surface receptors and inhibiting viral penetration or uncoating; inhibiting viral protein synthesis; or blocking late stages of virus assembly.
