Description
Phloxine O is a xanthene dye that is fluorescein in which the hydrogens at positions 2',4',5' and 7' are replaced by bromo groups, and the hydrogens at positions 4,5,6 and 7 are replaced by chloro groups. It is a red synthetic pigment which is widely used in colored cosmetics (e.g. lipsticks and blushers). It has a role as a fluorescent dye. It is a xanthene dye, a member of 2-benzofurans, a gamma-lactone, an organic heteropentacyclic compound, a polyphenol, an oxaspiro compound, a dibromobenzene and a tetrachlorobenzene. It derives from a fluorescein (lactone form).|A red fluorescein dye used as a histologic stain. It may be cytotoxic, mutagenic, and inhibit certain mitochondrial functions.
Solvent Red 48 is classed chemically as a fluoran color. It conforms to the formula. (To identify the colorant allowed for use in the European Union (EU), the INCI Name CI 45410 must be used, except for hair dye products).

Drug Information
Chemicals that emit light after excitation by light. The wave length of the emitted light is usually longer than that of the incident light. Fluorochromes are substances that cause fluorescence in other substances, i.e., dyes used to mark or label other compounds with fluorescent tags. (See all compounds classified as Fluorescent Dyes.)
