Calcium hydride

structure
  • CAS No:

    7789-78-8

  • Formula:

    CaH2

  • Chemical Name:

    Calcium hydride

  • Synonyms:

    Calcium hydride (CaH2);Calcium dihydride;Calcium hydride;2365323-97-1

  • Categories:

    Inorganic Chemistry  >  Inorganic Salts

Description

It is colorless orthorhombic crystallization; gray goods, orthorhombic or powder. It is sensitive to moisture. The relative density is 1.90. Melting point is 816℃ (in hydrogen). It can decompose to Ca and H2 at 600℃. With water it can decompose and release hydrogen at the same time, it can also generate hydrogen and ethanol calcium when react with ethanol. The reduction of metal oxides is more strongly than sodium hydride or lithium hydride. greyish-white solid

Treasury is low-temperature, ventilated and dry; shock-proof, moisture-proof and heat-proof

Reacts with tetrahydrofuran to heat and explode; mixed with potassium chlorate, hypochlorite, bromate, perchlorate, heat sensitive, friction sensitive explosion

Stable, but reacts violently with water, liberating and igniting hydrogen. Contact with strong oxidizers may cause fire or explosion. Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents, strong acids, halogens, water, alcohols.

Calcium hydride Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

Put the purified calcium with a purity of about 99.5% into the iron plate and put it in the center of the quartz reaction tube. Install the air inlet pipe and the air outlet pipe with rubber plugs at both ends of the quartz reaction pipe, pass the inlet pipe to purify hydrogen, and the air outlet pipe passes through the mineral oil The bubbler is connected to the fume kitchen. The reaction tube is heated by an electric furnace. The purified hydrogen is initially filled with a large amount of hydrogen to replace the air in the reaction system, and then heated in an electric furnace. The reaction starts at about 200°C, and is further heated to 250-300°C. Hydrogen is introduced at a flow rate of 0.6 m1/min. The reaction can be completed in about 2 hours. The generated calcium hydride is a porous gray-white crystalline powder, and the purity of the prepared calcium hydride is about 99%. Ca+H2→CaH2

Uses

To prepare rare metals by reduction of their oxides; as a drying agent for liquids and gases; to generate hydrogen:1 g of calcium hydride in water liberates 1 liter of hydrogen at STP; in organic syntheses.
