Potassium periodate Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

Chlorine oxidation method oxidizes iodine in aqueous medium by passing chlorine gas to generate periodate. After separating impurities, it is added to potassium hydroxide solution and neutralized to pH value of 2 to 3 to form potassium periodate solution, which is then purified , Separate impurities, evaporate and concentrate, cool and crystallize, centrifuge, and dry to prepare potassium periodate product. Its HIO4+KOH→KIO4+H2O

Uses

Powerful oxidizer in acid solution, oxidizing manganese Compounds to permanganate; used for this purpose in analytical chemistry (colorimetric estimation of Mn), also for the oxidation of some organic Compounds.
