3-Chloropropylamine Hydrochloride is a building block that has been used as a modifier to N-enrich an activated carbon to increase adsorption. 3-Chloropropylamine Hydrochloride has also been used in as a reactant for the synthesis of cyclic sulfamide derivatives to be used as 11β-Hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenase 1 inhibitors for potential treatment of metabolic syndrome and diabetes.

Methods of Manufacturing

To solution of thionyl chloride (8.68 g, 1.32 mmol) in anhydrous chloroform (30 mL) was added dropwise to 3-aminopropan-l-ol (4.49 g, 59.19 mmol) while maintaining the temperature at 0 - 10 °C. The mixture was allowed to warm to room temperature and then heated at reflux for 3 h. The mixture was cooled to room temperature and the precipitate was collected to give 3-chloropropylamine hydrochloride (8A) (7.07 g, 55.15 mmol, 93percent) as a green solid. Uses

3-Chloropropylamine hydrochloride was used in chemical treatment of carbon-enriched fly ash concentrates.It was used in the synthesis of linear, star and comb-like polyacrylamides by atomic transfer radical polymerization. It was used in the synthesis of halogen-functionalized aliphatic polyketones (macroinitiators).
