24g of p-hydroxybenzaldehyde was suspended in 100ml of glacial acetic acid, and added dropwise for 1h under stirring. After cooling, filtering, the filter cake was washed with ice water and recrystallized from ethanol to obtain 20 g of finished product with a yield of 61%.

Uses

4-Formyl-2-nitrophenol is an Intermediate used in synthesis of novel amodiaquine analogs as potential antimalarial and antifilarial compounds.
