1-Iodopropane Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

It is derived from the reaction of n-propanol and phosphorus triiodide. First mix red phosphorus with n-propanol, heat to 80°C on a water bath, then add iodine tablets, keep the temperature at 85-95°C, and react for 2h. The crude product is obtained by fractional distillation, and then fractionated after washing, drying, and collecting 102-103.5°C fractions to obtain 1-iodopropane.

Uses

Solvent. Organic Synthesis.
