General procedure: To a stirred solution of POClMethyl 2 -chloro-6-methylisonicotinate (3.6g, 19.5 mmol) in TFA (60 mL) was hydrogenated in the presence of platinum oxide hydrate (660 mg) at 60 psi at rt for 3 days. The reaction mixture was filtered, and the filtrate was concentrated to give the product as TFA salt, which was used directly for the next step without further purification.
