Sodium 2-bromoethanesulfonate Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

To the mixture of 1, 2-dibromoethane, ethanol and water heated to boiling, add an aqueous solution of anhydrous sodium sulfite dropwise, continue to reflux for 2 hours after addition, then distill off ethanol and unreacted 1, 2-dibromoethane alkyl. Ethanol was added to the above distillation residue to extract sodium 2-bromoethanesulfonate from sodium bromide and unreacted sodium sulfite. The mixture was boiled during extraction, and the sodium 2-bromoethanesulfonate was crystallized after the extract was cooled. The yield is 78-90%.

Usually used to investigate the effect of BES on inhibition of bacterial growth.
