Tributyltin oxide Use and Manufacturing
Tin and chlorine react to synthesize tin tetrachloride, and then react with chlorobutane and metal magnesium to produce tributyltin chloride. Then treated with sodium hydroxide to prepare bistributyltin oxide. The content of industrial products is 93-95%. Raw material consumption quota: tin 800kg/t, magnesium 500kg/t, butanol 800kg/t.
Bis(tributyltin) Oxide is an organotin compound used as a fungicide and molluscicide, particularly in wood preservation. Bis(tributyltin) Oxide was used as an active component in marine antifouling paints but is not longer used due to its toxicity and is considered a severe marine pollutant.
