Magnesium acetate Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

Derived from the co-heating of magnesium nitrate and acetic acid. The magnesium nitrate and anhydrous acetic acid were heated together. After the reaction was terminated, the solution was boiled for another 20 min. After standing for a long time, anhydrous magnesium acetate precipitated. It is filtered with suction, washed with a small amount of absolute ethanol, and then with ether, and dried in a vacuum drying oven at 60°C. The crystal contains free acetic acid and should be dried for a long time until it reaches a constant weight. Magnesium acetate tetrahydrate can also be heated to constant weight at 134°C to obtain anhydrous magnesium acetate.

Uses

Magnesium acetate is used in the manufacture of rayon fiber for cigarette filters; and as a fixative for dyes in textile printing. It also is used as an antiseptic and disinfectant. Dye fixative in textile printing, deodorant, disinfectant, and antiseptic.
Magnesium acetate is used in chemistry and molecular biology as a reagent and a source of magnesium. Magnesium has a variety of biological roles in enzymology, cell membrane and wall structural integrity, muscle cell physiology, and n
