4-Methoxybenzyl alcohol Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

In methanol solution, the mixture of anisaldehyde and formaldehyde is treated with potassium hydroxide solution to obtain a mixture of anisitol and formic acid, which is extracted with benzene and purified by distillation to obtain a pure product. Using platinum as a catalyst and ferrous chloride as a reducing agent, it is obtained by hydrogenation of anisaldehyde.

Uses

4-Methoxybenzyl Alcohol is used in the preparation of semiconductors, nanosheets and nanocrystals. Also is used as a reagent for various chemical organic reactions such as in the synthesis of quinolines.
