4-Butylbenzoic acid Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

Of compounds of Formula Ib, those which are particularly preferred are: ... 4-n-hexylbenzoic acid 4-n-hexylbenzoic acid Analogously, the following compounds are prepared: ... 4-n-octylbenzoic acid 4-n-propylbenzoic acid A compound of claim 1, selected from the group consisting of: ... 4-n-hexylbenzoic acid 4-n-hexylbenzoic acid The aromatic carboxylic acid compound is not particularly limited, and the following can be exemplified:benzoic acid, ...3-n-propylbenzoic acid, 4-n-propylbenzoic acid, 2-General procedure: Benzoic acid (0.1g, 0.85 mmol) was dissolved in THF (5.0 mL) treated with carbonyldiimidazole (0.14 g; 0.85 mmol) and stirred at room temperature for 0.5 h. Then 2 (0.15 g, 0.85 mmol) was added and stirred for additional 4 hours. After the completion of the reaction monitored by TLC, the solvent was removed and 4 mL of POCl3 was added and stirred in 105 C for additional 4 hours. Then the mixture was poured into cold water slowly and the precipitate removed by filtration and washed with 3 × 10 mL saturated aqueous NaHCO3 solution and 3 × 10 mL water. The precipitate was collected and dried to give 3 as a white solid, yield 35 %.
